silly question: STD possible in sinus cavities/upper nose?

I have a feeling that I'm asking a silly question, but better to ask a silly one then not ask at all and wonder/worry.  This would regard an STD in the sinus cavites and/or upper nose area near the sinus.  In the beggining of November I was out of town on business and, late at night and stoned in the hotel lobby, I was approached by a prostitute.  I had seen dominatrixes before but never a prostitute, so entered into a new venture.  Here is what happened: I received a golden shower on my genitals (those are fine), but also had her sit on my face so that I could be smothered by her buttocks.
She had a very strong smell, almost enough to make me wonder if she had some sort of vaginal infection (chlamydia?), unless it was the smell of here anal region.  She did mention that she was waiting for towels to take shower, so maybe it was just a dirty anal area (?)  Anyways, what I did was smell her for a while while she masturbated me, and I licked the skin of her buttock and the crack area all above and next to her anus.  I believe that once or twice my tounge slipped and touched her anus (not inserted, just "glanced"), but I did not intentionally rim her, something I have enjoyed with girlfriends in the past, but did not feel comfortable with in this situation.

So: no penis contact except by hand, tounge contact to skin area near anus with maybe one or two slight touches by accident on the anus.  No heavy rimming, no mouth/tounge to vaginal or mouth to mouth contact.

After it was over and I returned to my room, I noticed that her smell was very heavy on my top lip/nostril area from where she was sitting on my face.  I showered and brushed my teeth.  All was well for the next three weeks until I came down with a sinus attack that has lasted low-grade for the last month.  I do get sinus problems in the winter anyways, though this one has lasted for longer than usual, almost going away, then coming back.  While I suspect that I have a simple sinus infection (that I should probably go to a doctor for and get antibiotics), I have this insane fear that I have could have contracted something.  I just keep thinking about the strong smell, and how I could smell it so much all over my nose and top lip.  My tounge and mouth look fine, no sore throat, the nostril area and upper lip area look fine, so I'm guessing I'm being paranoid, but could an STD "travel" up to my sinus area from my nostrils having contact with her?  Seems CRAZY, and I would think that if there was an STD going on then I would have a lesion or whatnot on my tounge where I licked her buttocks around the anal area.  Again, the problem is in my sinus area, not tounge/mouth or around the nostrils, and I've left out no details about where my tounge and nose were.

Hello,
I do believe STD infecting the sinus although no case has ever been found. In the past I had never have a sinus problem until I had oral sex. After a few times with my significant other I noticed something unusual in the back of my throat/nasal drainage area. It felt like Something very sticky started to form and then months later I started to have nasal drainage problems. It eventually leads to my curent sinus problem.s. I have visited many doctors including specialists but they all told me the same story. So far I have taken a few types of antibiotics but it doesn't completely go away. As of this writing my problem is so bad that my bedroom has a very strong odor in the morning and she tells me that my nose smells very bad to a point we don't kiss anymore.

Despite the apparent intensity of the exposure you describe, the STD risk was low.  Genital area odor is more likely a sign of poor hygiene or of bacterial vaginosis, or perhaps trichomoniasis, than it is of a serious STD such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc.  In any case, I am unaware of any STD that has ever caused a nasal or sinus infection.  It is far more likely that you caught a cold, entirely coincidental with the sexual encounter.

But if your upper respiratory/sinus symptoms persist, see a health care provider and be open about your sexual exposure.  In any case, if your sinusitis warrants antibiotic treatment, all the drugs that normally would be used against it would also be effective against the common bacterial STDs.  So I really wouldn't worry about it.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

I doubt you could have aquired an STD in your sinus cavity but your symptoms are very consistant with a sinus infection.  If sinus infections are not treated with antibiotics or treated properly, they can recur and or take a long time to clear up.  I wouldnt worry, but wait to hear what the doc has to say.
