test accuracy and should i be worried.

test accuracy and should i be worried.

Hi. 6 months ago i had sex with a high risk person ( prostitute) the sex was protected and i am not aware of condom failure.after a couple of months i got myself a full STD Screen ( HIV,Chla,Gon Hep B and syph) all returned negative then after 6 months poss exposure i still felt uneasy as i had an ache in the testes so i had another full screening, same tests again, these all returned negative again. The questions i would like to ask are

1. statistically speaking could any of these tests be wrong? if these tests couldnt be wrong could it be any other std that causes and ache like that?

2.i have not been tested for herpes or Trichomonas are any of these infections likely and would any of them cause an ache in the testicles? They dont appear to be swollen and not particulary tender they just ache and have done for 6 months so something must be causing it !!!

3.I am just into a new relationship and do not want sex until i have cleared up this ache, is there any other std tests you would recommend?

Also on a different post was this comment and i was wondering your view on it.

regarding the hiv window period what we read in internet is 6 months maximum but if we went to oxford text book of medicine we find that it can take up to 36 months and we read questions in the internet we find many many who were exposed and did the test up to 2 years and it is negative then it turns positive, iam not sure about the accuracy of window period studies but it seeems that they followed the people who were exposed for six months only and they want the people to have testings,i found in the body.com a person seroncverted after 30 months and all the tests before were negative including the pcr and we find many like him so how safe 6months period is? including blood transfusion and marriage, can anybody tell us the truth? thanks

1) From a statistical standpoint, you can be 100% certain about the results of 2 sets of negative tests, especially since the encounter was very low risk.

2) The chance catching anything from a single protected encounter, including trichomonas and herpes, is too low to warrant testing.  There is no widely available, reliable test for trich in men anyway.  You could get a herpes blood test if you're still concerned about that infection.

3) No STD causes prolonged testicular aching.  Your symptoms probably are simply heightened sensitivity resulting from anxiety over the sexual exposure you describe.  You can be confident you don't have anything to transmit to your partner.

I already replied to the statement you quote from another thread.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
