test resluts/ with history of cold sores

I have a new partner.  We agreed we both should have hiv and std testing done.  When I received my results, I was confused.  I have always had cold sores.  In fact I was getting over 1 right before the blood test.  they tested hsvI/II and the result was 58.7. High. is this my cold sore? or do I have genital herpes too? I have never had symptoms of genital herpes.  also Hsv, Igm I/II was tested, the combination is 1.56.. High again.  What are these tests telling me? I am very scared, and my partner is going to want to see this test.

It sounds like you had one of the older, non-reliable HSV blood tests.  All you can tell from those results is that you are infected with HSV-1, HSV-2, or both.  Given your hisotyr of cold sores, it is highly likely your test result is due to HSV-1, but it is impossible to tell whether you might also have an HSV-2 infection.  You need to ask your health care provider to do a proper herpes blood test, such as the HerpeSelect test.  See many other threads on this; search the threads for "herpes diagnosis" and "HerpeSelect test".

Good luck---  HHH, MD

What the doctor will tell you is you got the wrong test.  Do not waste your time/money on the IgM test, they're worthless.  The correct test is an IgG type specific blood test (eg, HerpeSelect).

Not all IgG tests are the same. You had a bad one.

I thought Lab Corp did Herpes Select

If you look at http://www.herpesdiagnosis.com/blood.html you'll see that with LabCorp you need to specifically ask for HerpeSelect, meaning it's not their default test method.

I have just received my test back for herpes simplex virus type 1 and/or 2 antibodies IgG HSV1/2 combind Ab SCRN, IgG >22.40 IV

Also tested for herpesvirus 6 IgG Results 3.80 IV

Tested negative for HIV (YAY)

I have been very sick since August with too many symptoms to list that include periperal neuropathies, pain in left shoulder arm and other parts of body, scattered rashes, confusion, night sweats, mood swings, foot drop. Could it all be herpes? Could I have a brain infection?

Thanks
