Thank you for your response the story goes as follows I had sex with CSW 21st Feb I had a condom on but I did not check it after sex to make sure that it is intact. I have oily skin and I am used to pimples on my chest and back and they were itchy I got some around 6 weeks after the incident. I started to develop stomach problems 7 weeks after the exposure but the real pain a diarrhea came some 9 weeks after the exposure I was then tested +ve for some bacteria in my stomach and I was told that this bacteria has nothing to do with HIV during this time I lost a couple of kgs I was given an triple course antibiotic for three weeks which overwhelmed me with its side effects. I developed a dry mouth which is better now I also developed a furry tongue which went away without medication and had some very strong depression and an itching sensation. I have finished the antibiotic course some. During the same time a started getting saver pain in my knees and thighs especially when sitting and resting and it intensifies when I wake up in the mornings. I was also diagnosed with high uric acid level 426/428 and I had high cholesterol and they found 6 small stones in my kidney. During the treatment for the stomach bacteria I developed a sore throat that stayed with me for a while because I couldn’t use medication with the antibiotics but when I started the taking just simple home medicines it went away. I never had fever during that time and never had any swollen lymph nodes until 16 weeks after the exposure the one I asked earlier about. I was told by everybody that ARS symptoms can’t stay with you this long and that they all come at once and go at once and they don’t come in the sequence I got it even my doctor told me this. So could it be another STD or is it just my anxiety because the is my first time and I read a lot in the internet about HIV?

16 weeks is far too long for ARS symptoms to be appearing. ARS is caused by seroconversion which is the time at which the body produces HIV antibodies to fight the virus. This typically occurs within two weeks but in extremely rare cases, can take as long as 3 months. 4 months is far too long. Also, a single swollen lymph node is not indicative, HIV infection causes generalised lymphadenopathy ie. swelling of nodes all over the body. This is because the nodes are the site of T cell replication and since the virus attacks T cells, it is involved in the killing of them in all the nodes and thus proliferation of new T cells in all the nodes which causes the swelling. A swelling in the groin could be anything. Particularly if you have any cut or bite on that side of the body either on the leg or lower abdomen, the groinal lymph node would swell. It may not be anything visible, so many things can cause this. Out of interest, what makes you think you were exposed?
