urethritis??

unprotected sex with someone i thought i know about three weeks ago.  two weeks post i had increadible pain while urinating; sting/burn, head of penis is red, white discharge.  Also a lymph node in groin swollen and generally felt like crap.  went to get chlamydia/gonorhea tested and started doxy on Monday afternoob...both came back negative so doc told me to stop and go on CIpro 500 mg 2x p/d for 2 days (stopped doxy) which i started thursday morning.  Today also took a one time Zpack of 1.5.G

still really hurts to urinate...penis still looks red and feel like crap / stressed, now feel getting cold sore....shouldn't i feel better by now?  help (thanks)

Welcome to the Forum.  From the sounds of things you have non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU), a common penile infection which can be caused by a variety of difficult to grow bacteria.  The recommended treatment is either doxycycline, 100 mg twice daily for 7 days or azithromycin, 1.0 gram by mouth as a single dose. Thus the therapy you have had is appropriate.  On such therapy you should begin to improve within a day or two of beginning treatment but resolution of symptoms can take a number of additional days to resolve.  

The redness of your penis is not a typical part of NGU and you should have started to improve by now. Redness of the penis could be a yeast infection, a rug reaction, or something else.  I think it is probably time to return to your doctor and have him/her take another look. EWH

thanks- not sure if i need to pay again for follow up ?-if i do then i will.  first time so i don't think i was specific enough:
1. two docs have looked at my issue with redness in last week.  should i go again do u think (ie they dont know)
2. is a lymph node in genitals normal?  happened two weeks post unprotected so seems its not a coincidence.
3.  have felt like crap all week- post nasal drip etc., is this hiv worry? should feel like crap...outta sorts, etc?
4. i mentioned it hurt to urinate-burns beyond belief...but also when i squeeze the head of my my penis it feels (looking for anology) as if glass is in there-- much pain (no chance of glass or anything like that.
5.  lastly, i started doxy on monday night...by thurs a.m. when i was switched to cipro it still hadnt improved - is that normal or should it have improved by then?

No need to pay again.

1.  If the redness is better, ther is little value to being seen again.  If it is unchanged or worse you need to be seen by one of the same doctors an told what they think it is.

2.  Yes, lymph node swelling is not unusual and this can persist for long times.  Not a concern in and of itself.

3.  These do not sound like symptoms of most STDs.  Perhaps a coincidence

4.  This is not typical.  Another reason to see one of the doctors who have already seen you (they have a frame of reference)

5.  As I said, typical NGU woul have begin to improve by then.

thanks for info:
-went back to PP today for another check.  She wasn't sure as well.  Still have fluid leaking white/brown color from end of penis.  She looked at everything and couldn't see any lesions et al.  Took a swab and looked under a microscope and found white blood cells...so assumed a bacterial infection. (?).  gave me 2G of metronozidol (took 1.5G Z-pack yesterday).  came home and just urinated again..still burns but now have blood when i wipe the end of my urethra....ugh...  hoping Z-pack or metronoz helps.
-Uti?
-eurithraitis?
-kidney stone?  (ok reaching but sure u can imagine stress)
thoughts?

I think you need to work with the helath care proviers you're seeing.  There may be some trial and error needed to deal with this rather unusual course. EWH

well closing out this thread and happy for any last comments:
-so went to doc again.  she tested for tricomotasis (sp) and took a culture from all the drainage for herpes.

both neg. so neg for chly, gon, triac, herpes....still stings to urinate like day 15...but much much better.

is this totally strange or just one of those things?  would have thought something positive.

see urologist in ten days-hard getting appt.

any last thoughts?
