uti??

Hi, in May of 2011, my husband and I separated for two weeks. At that time I had unprotected sex. On aug 16 my urine started to be cloudy and it burned a little at the end of peeing , also had this weird feeling in my urethra like tickling.  I took a home uti test and it tested positive for leukocytes but no nitrites. I then went to health dept who said i had a uti and I could possibly kick it with cranberry pills and water. The burning went away but not the tickling feeling like a spasm. So i then went to the dr who put me on Cipro for five days today is the fourth. Said if it didnt go away to come back and they would do a urine coulture Somedays the feeling is gone and others its back. I am worried of this being an std. I have no other symptoms though and neither does my husband. Should I be worried?

they can. also low estrogen can cause urethral spasms too. continue to follow up on your symptoms with your provider to try to get to the bottom of them. if you can find an urogynecologist near you, they are terrific for follow up on these sorts of issues too.

Hi, so I finished the antibiotics yesterday. This feeling is still here. Its like pressure or spasm in my urethra kinda. No pain. Just annoying. I know that in march I had an ovarian cyst and fibroid growths in my uterus, is it possible that these are now causing this feeling and leukocytes in urine? Why wouldnt the antibiotics cure the uti?

it's not likely you are just now having symptoms of a std you contracted months ago. follow up on the proper testing though so you don't have to worry when symptoms arise in the future.

cranberry pills actually don't help cure uti's. I'm appalled that that was the information you were given :(

give it time for the antibiotics to work.

also you should properly cover your full std testing bases if you haven't so far - chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, hepatitis and hiv.
