well here we go again

I just came back from my idiot of a Urologist Dr. T. I complained that I still had discharge and a groin pain that was hard to describe, I also mentioned the BIG issue (every girl that I have sex with complains that I gave them something). They all complain of discharge and foul odor. I was reasured that all test were neg and no anti-biotics were needed, I asked if he tested for trich he said that trich is a FEMALE infection so he wouldnt have to check for that. Also he highly recommeneds an urine test over the more accurate swab. Ive had this problem going on 3 years and my questions are:

1. Since antibiotics work while im taking them (no pain, no discharge) Stillhurting mentioned Ketek, is that still your drug of choice for resistant strains of infections
2. I have at my disposal Azinthro 1g, Doxy100mg, and Flagyl 400mg. What dose and order should I take them in for best results (one may interact - or + with the other). Ive alaedy started 1g Azintro before bed and Flagyl 400mg two times a day for the past two days.
3. I feel wonderful now that ive started the meds how many people out there actually listen to there Urolgist?

I need to be very careful how I word this according to the website here, but trich is an infection that is present in males and can cause symptoms.  However, usually it is asymptomatic in males.

A PCR based urine test for Trichomonas would actually still be a great test, but I don't know where you can get one from!  If that is what your urologist meant, please pass along that information, I'm facinated.  Unfortunately if he meant microscope examination of urine, that test for Trich is not a particularly sensitive method.

1. It is something to try against resistant strains, however I'm of the opinion that it's better to have a diagnosis first before pursuing a treatment.  However it's up to you.

2.  If your condition responds to antibiotics, that would make me think it's not Trichomonas.  Unless you are specifically speaking about the Flagyl, which is active against Trich.  It's safe to take the azithromycin and Flagyl together, however an upset stomach is not unusual in that case.  For Flagyl at 500mg you'd take it for a week, 800mg a day is a little higher but dosages higher than that are prescribed for other conditions so I doubt it will harm you, just watch out for the stomach issues.  No reason to take the doxy along with the rest of that, seems like overkill (literally!).  What is the duration you plan to take the azithromycin for?  1g per day is quite a potent dosage.

3.  Well, unfortunately your urologist is in a tricky position.  Once something like prostatitis (just as an example, not saying that is what you have) becomes chronic, it's tough to cure.  So they don't have a lot to go on.  It's a tough area of research, similar to NGU where some causes are known but many still appear unknown.  I will say I have spoken to urologists who are more understanding, so you might seek another one out.

Now that you've started the azithromycin and Flagyl, you can't really be tested accurately.  So you might as well complete your course of treatment and see how you feel in the coming weeks.

I hate to even suggest this....  but if one of these girls are nice enough to be your human "culture" and get tested, and tell you what you gave them.....   then you have something to go on.

Because once these critters get parked up in the prostate, it is a real biiiiaatch to figure out what you really got.

I mean really, it is like you have to go to some remote island that does nothing but treat UTI's with some wich doctor in some forieng nation to get a doctor to listen to you & even then he may or may not be a quack.

First let me thank you for your fast yet informative responses. The one thing I realized while dealing with Urologist and health care providers on STDs is that a patient can study a certain area of medicine and become more knowledgeable than the actual doctor him/herself. Most doctors dealing with STDs look down on there patients as to say "It was all your fault so deal with it."That sort of atitude only lets the infections fester and reconfigure and ultimately end up in there backyards anyway. To answer you inquiry about the urine test Still m doctor said he would not test for trich and that he would tes my urine for NGU. I knew he was going to do that before I came so I held my urine for four hours prior to my visit. While in the batroom before I took my urine test I noticed a large amount of discharge comming out of my urethra, so I thought it would be a goog chance something would be detected in that particular sample. Im about to type something that may make you guys cringe but here goes im about to just give up on sex period. Something that i forgot to mention before was that when im on the meds and not having sex I feel like superman but as soon as I start flipping pancakes it returns, by the way what is the latest on Protected sex while on antibiotics tring to fight off an STD ofcourse????
