that is probably a combined hsv igg if you posted the decimal point correctly. It is of little use and you need to repeat the test with a type specific herpes igg blood test.

Also, don't let them do the IgM on you again.  Its a worthless test, and is wrong more often than its right.

What you need is a type specific IgG test done.  The combo test doesn't tell you what type you have - 1 or 2.

i had a positive igg and negative igm. so does this mean i have either hsv1 or hsv2? since it cant determine either or. or does it mean its all false positive? and wrong?

you need to write at Herpes forum for herpes tests results you are probably positive for herpes but you need further igg testing  to determine if  it is HSV1 or 2 they dont advise igm tests they are worthless so dot take igm.

write herpes forum? for...? i got tested out of the country in asia. and supposedly they dont have an accurate test where it differentiates hsv1 or hsv2. but my hsv test came out positive for igg 10.0. but i never had a cold sore of breakout . what does thi smean. can it be false positive all together since i got it in combination with the igm/

It could be a false positive, but right now you don't know if its type 1, type 2, or both.  Have you had genital symptoms?

no. no genital symptoms. no cold sores. when i got tested for hsv2 in u.s. i was negative. and i come here to get a blood test for the school i teach at and i requested an hsv1 n hsv2 test. they took an igm/igg test for both. and igg came out 10.0 positive and igm borderline. the doctor said hes sure i only have hsv1 for i never had genital symptomas. but i never had cold sores either. so its stressin the **** outta me. 1. for being in this naive country that lacks advanced testin and 2. receivin a positive outcome. im totally confused. i paid $300.00 so they can provide me with a result thats most like negative..but again I DONT KNOW AND ITS DRIVING ME INSANE. please help with any advise

OK so you know you had a negative hsv2 test in the US.  Have you had any risk in between that test and this one?

Did you test for hsv1 at that time?

If you haven't had any risk, and you don't know your hsv1 status, then this has to be hsv1, right?  Only 20-40% of those with hsv1 ever get a cold sore, so I'd guess its that.

Ignore the IgM.  Its totally unreliable.

so the igg + igm NON SPecific test that turned out positive....is reliable? so ur sayin the positive results is more than likely hsv 1? i was told to disregard this igg igm non specific test altogether

Well, disregard the IgM totally.

I don't know if I would disregard the combo, but its not really telling you anything, and they aren't all that accurate, though not as bad as the IgM.

Basically, you don't know more than you did before you tested.
