what is my risk?

by afraid999, Apr 26, 2008 09:40PM
Dr. Hansfield:
I am a single 47-year old heterosexual male that in a moment of loneliness had unprotected insertive vaginal sex with an escort20 year old girl back on October 5, 2007 when I was drunk. I'd been concerned about my chances of exposure to hiv in particular since the event. This is Louisville, Kentucky by the way. Since then(almost 7 months)
I've not so much as even had a single flu-like symptom while all my friends have gotten sick over and over again.
The escort, who still had my cell number in her phone, and was just trying to see who's number this was called me
resulting in an impromptu conversation where I told her I was paranoid about her status and she told me she was also
paranoid about the risks of hiv and that she said she gets tested on a regular-basis. She then went on to say that
she'd tested negative for hiv a few weeks before we had sex. I said: Really? And she said: "Yes, I just paid the Bill"
I feel fine. I have no other std's. I'm very fit  but I have to admit that I'd really prefer not to endure the anxiety of atest.
What are my prospects?

1. There isnt a doctor in this forum, you need to post in the expert forum (requires payment)
2. She tested negative recently so the odds are heavily in your favor.
3. Get over the testing anxiety and go get tested 6 weeks out from the encounter. If you in fact were infected there is plenty of treatments you can get that will help you live a long life, but you have to find out if you have it first. Go get tested.

Hi there -

I'd agree that your chances of HIV infection are very slim, and 6 months after the event, if you've had no symptoms of anything, I wouldn't worry about anything.

If you have unprotected sex, its always a good idea to get tested for stds, but this particular event wouldn't overly worry me.
