As posted several times previously, I'm an expert on STDs, not on

Female sexual dysfunction
Sexual problems overview functioning or other aspects of sexuality. But I suspect you are exactly right about the cause. I gather you haven't yet had sex especially often, so it seems likely that your hymen (or a remnant of it) was injured.
Another possibility is that you have cervicitis, i.e. infection of the cervical canal; chlamydia and gonorrhea are the main causes, and bleeding after sex can be a symptom of it. But that wouldn't explain your partner's sensation of a "pop".
Every sexually active woman under age 25 should have a test for chlamydia (and usually gonorrhea testing is done at the same time) at least once a year. This seems like a good time for you to see a health care provider--such as a public health family planning or STD clinic, Planned Parenthood, etc--for testing, just to be safe. But my guess is the test will be negative.
Good luck-- HHH, MD
