worried

I had sex with a commercial sex worker in london 1 day back and am now back in Chicago. This is the first time I had such sex outside of marriage. I used a condom and both the worker and me used gloves. I had oral and vaginal sex. We had anal penetration (both ways) only with a gloved index finger - we both wore gloves. The condom did not break during sex.

I am worried about the risk of acquiring STD. Should I be doing tests? If yes which ones?

Also can std be passed through hand contact with gloves on? For example if her vaginal fluid came in contact with my anus through her hand. I do not think this happened but it is possible.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much. I plan on doing the tests. Hope everything works out and I can continue my life normally. I will never lose my judgment again like this and risk so much. Dont know if have had hepatitis b vaccince - it comes in the package anyway and covers all that you mentioned. I have to wait 3 weeks according to the testing folks. That will also be hard. They give test results within 2 days on phone and on line after test.

There isn't any such thing as an overall medical record, as it stands right now.  There is some talk about medical records going computerized and online so that if you were out of town, and needed medical care, the doc in the other town could access your records.

Obviously, this is causing a lot of debate, because your cardiologist wouldn't need to know that you had chlamydia 10 years ago, right?  And who would access it, and how, etc.

Right now, each doctor's office has its own medical records, and without your signature, can't let anyone, including your wife, see it or know anything about it.  Even the doctor that you share can't, by law, share your medical records with your wife.

I would ask for a gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, herpes, hepatitis b if you haven't been vaccinated, and HIV.

Keep in mind though that your chances of these infections are really low, ok?

Who stores and has access to my medical records? So do doctors have access to my overall medical record? my wife and I share the same doctor. If my wife finds out that would be the end. I cant believe how I could suspend my judgment and now cant sleep and eat in fear of our lives being ruined.

Well, ok, its up to you to be tested.  You used protection for everything, so your chances of infection are really quite low.  However, there is another post by wagim, and he used condoms and got gonorrhea.

I would still be tested, and yes, these records would become part of your overall medical records, but its not something that anyone can find out without your written permission.

They don't send them to your regular doctor, your insurance if you self pay, etc.

Thanks AJ. If I have no symptoms is it ok to not get tested? I think any tests here by local health departments go to my medical records.

If you used a condom even for oral, your risk of anything is very low.

You wouldn't get anything from hands or touching.

Please let me know if I am still at risk if I used a condom  during oral sex. Also I have never had a cold sore and I used a barrier for oral sex. Also can disease spread through the hand to anus?

Did you have unprotected oral sex?  If you did, you could get gonorrhea, syphilis or genital herpes type 1.  (If you've ever had a cold sore, then don't worry about hsv1.)
