Blood work today

Hi guys,

I went for my blood work today..everything is normal but my cholesterol. That is a little high...everything else is fine just don't have the result for Vitamin D repeat

Does anyone else have high cholesterol through their journey that docs speak of causing anything?

Jibby,

What level Vit D supplement did he have you on?

I have heard it can take a year or so for improvement --- Vit D takes awhile to increase. It is also depleted by the flares so it's almost like to be a little bit unpredictable.

I think a good plan would be to mix a healing oil.

30 grams Evening Primrose Oil
30 drops Calendula Essential Oil (also called Marigold)
2 drops clove oil

I would try it this way first, and you could put some of this on a cotton swab to put into the external acoustic meatus (the uppermost part of your ear canal) if necessary. If that part of your ear is not affected, it may be useful to heat up your healing oil in a water bath and add some beeswax (3 grams) to the mix to make a soft salve. A baby food or small condiment jar works really well for this and you just need to heat it up hot enough to melt the beeswax.  A salve would give you some protection from the water hitting it when you take a shower. I am not sure if it would form too much of an oxygen barrier that might slow the healing, but I don't think so.

If you can't find pure Calendula Essential Oil and have to use an already blended oil, then I would suggest mixing it 50/50 with the Evening Primrose Oil.

Evening Primrose Oil is also available as an oral supplement in soft gel form. 1000 mg to 1300 mg. per day is helpful for healing many skin conditions.  A sublingual B complex with extra B6 and biotin should help, too. Deficiency has been linked to Seborrhea.

I hope this helps you!

Hi val i have been diagnosed with seborrhoeic eczema in my ears, it gets really sore, and having a shower to wash my hair is a nightmare as any water well that makes it worse.

I was told it is another auto immune problem for me so my body is working too hard and making too much wax or skin or something and it gets dry and cracks and is really sore.

Is there anything I could take to help this? I know your into herbal stuff and it really is a problem for me, my doc just ooos and ahhs and says my auto immune system is really out of wak, but does nothing about it.

My poor ears boo hoo. lol (and gums).

My total cholesterol is usually about 6 but i am on a beta blocker and this can cause a raised choldesterol. Also my good choldesteral is good so my doctor is always fine with mine.

My husband, smokes, drinks and eats rubbish and his total choesterol is 3 lol.

People with mobility problems tend to have a higher count, certain drugs can cause it, thryoid problems, memopause, kidney problems and just palin eating too many sat fats.

My vit d was low but i got it up again not thorugh taking talbets but eating food high in it, and sitting out side when the sun shines.

I dont eat dairy now i am on a gluten free and dairy free diet (well nerly), but boy do i miss a bit of tasty cheddar cheese lol.

Yes, that is true.  Cholesterol is needed for myelin repair.  HDL is considered good cholesterol.  You want this number to be high.  There is much argument as to how high is too high.  I have heard that some doctors believe the higher the better with HDL.  I don't know how true this is.

LDL is the bad cholesterol.  This is what causes all the problems with atherosclerosis, blood clots, etc.  When I had to learn about all this stuff in school, one of my instructors told us how to keep it straight was to think of it this way.  You want HDL to H-igh and you want LDL to be L-ow.  She also said to remember that LDL is L-ethal.  Triglycerides also play a big part and you want those to be low as well.

My dad is having the most problems with his triglycerides right now.  They are approaching the 3000's again.  He had them up in the 5000's about a year ago and his doctor threatened to lock him in the hospital and starve him, lol!  When his cholesterol was at it's worse, he had yellow bumps all over his skin.  It was gross!  They were by his eyes and everything.  This was so rare that his doctors sent him to a medical college an hour away so all the students could see it.  They also took pictures of him, blotted out his eyes, and published the pics in books and medical journals.  Too bad he couldn't have made some money off of it!

Suprisingly, this doctor he sees told him to stay away from gluten-free stuff.  He said that it is really bad for him for some reason.  I'll have to ask my dad again exactly what he said.  His doctor also has a blog.  I'll find it and post a link here when I do.

As far as diet goes, too, I know he has to stay away from pretty much any carbs.  Basically just fruits and veggies and lean, plain proteins.  Everything plain!  I always feel bad for him, but he cheats a lot!  It's basically a paleo diet.

Anyways, I'll try to get some more info from him tomorrow and get his doctors blog on here for anyone interested.

Both sides of my husband's family tends to have high cholesterol. Not quite as high as Sarah's dad, but pretty high. My father in law was into the 400's at his worst. My husband's and mother-in law's run around 200 but the ratio between LDL and HDL is supposed to be more important than the actual number. And their HDL is usually around 120, his doctor even admits that is about the highest she has ever seen. They have both been told that the ratio is more important than the actual number. If you divide your total cholesterol by your HDL  (TC/HDL) the goal is to keep it under 5.

My husband's ratio was under 2, but his doctor really pushed for him to take a statin drug for some reason that I didn't understand.I am about to finish my Herbalist certification and I have strong leanings toward herbal remedies when practical and since his number was no where near approaching 5, I suggested Red Rice Yeast instead. The doctor acted like I was some kind of a black widow or something when I first mentioned it. He filled the statin prescription, but the flushing was horrible and he refused to take it. He started taking the Red Rice Yeast instead and has lowered his total cholesterol to 180. She was thrilled with that until he told her that he donated his Rx to the county health nurse to give out to the needy and was going herbal. But she has since looked into it and suggested it to other people, too. My MIL said her last test was 185 since she started taking it.

Maybe Sarah can explain why doctors still consider it a problem when the HDL is the one pushing the numbers over 200. I also find it very odd that we eat almost the same thing and my cholesterol is always on the low side, around 140. Someone was telling me recently that too low a number could cause a problem with myelin repair, as cholesterol is needed to repair myelin, Does anyone know much about this? I have tried to raise my numbers, but so far they don't change much and I am really fighting my weight at the moment, so bacon and whole eggs would be problematic for me!

okay, sorry about that.  My dad has extremely high cholesterol and triglycerides.  He takes high doses of vitamin D, like 20,000IU's per day.  He also takes fish oil in addition to his prescription meds.

His doc is at the forefront in his field.  He has my dad on a special diet that has kept his levels in check.  He has had this high cholesterol since he was in his 30's.  They told him back then he wouldn't make it to 40.  He is now 55.

I can get some more info from him if you'd like.  A lot of the stuff is natural and/or dietary changes.

Not sure if this answered your question.  My brain doesn't seem to be working now, lol.  Once I get the shakes, my brain becomes mush for the rest of the day.

I am on the higher side of normal, but unfortunately, extremely high cholesterol runs in my family.  My dads gets up into the 600's at time.  Right now, his is approaching the 400's again.  And no, I am not exaggerating.

I'll get back to you in a little bit.  I am having a sudden bout of the shakes!

No, I haven't but mine is definitely creeping up the older I get. (ugh!)

I hope your Vit D has come up. I wonder if that is the reason?? Is that possible?
