is marriage possible for a schitzophrenic

my relative 41 year male , diagnosed schitzophrenia  6 years ago on treatment  for past 6 yrs, was hospitalised  controlled from delusions of persecution , developed lethagy , extreme sleep and passive  in 3 years , last year he discontinued the treatment and within 6-7 months situation became very worse and he had severe delusions , fought badly with his mother , violent behavior, not talking to any body,then hospitalised and became normal for the past 9 months, now he is talking ok but answers only to question asked , sleeping till 11 o clock in the morning, not bathing for week,but otherwise normal .he comes regularly to a psychatrist, but  he doesnot know that he is schitzophrenic so far. now the problem is in his family , they have planned to do marriage for him. he is also telling ok to them. is marriage ok for him, can he lead a normal family life will he be impotent,the family mem didnt tell the girl about all this,thinking this is not important

If its his decision then yes its his right. He doesn't sound like he has the ability to raise children well in his lack of ability to relate to people that you stated but that can often be part of schizophrenia. His future wife should certainly be aware of it but he should disclose it to her himself. If he still has that much trouble relating to people and is sleeping that much then perhaps his medications need updating. You could speak to his psychiatrist about that. I myself have made a full recovery from schizoaffective disorder but the treatment is still in Phase II FDA study but with many currently available treatments he should be able to feel more stable than he is.
