question about onset of schizophrenia

by atbfcpfv, Oct 22, 2008 04:27AM
Is it possible to develop schizophrenia as a small child? I have heard of it showing up around age 12 but never younger than that.

Also, do symptoms of it have a tendency to disappear for a while & show back up again? Or would that be something else?

Childhood schizophrenia is a seperate criteria and less common but does occur with relative frequency. Adult onset schizophrenia usually starts at around age 18 but there are usually prodromal (warming signs) from around age 13. This happenned in myself and is typical. Schizophrenia can go into remmissioin for a while but with bipolar or depression with psychotic features (as opposed to schizoaffective which I have, and involves continuous psychosis even in between depression and mania, and have recovered from with an experimental treatment in Phase II FDA study glycine) a person only hears voices or has delusions during perios of mood instability. If you feel something is wrong go to a psychiatrist without a pre-determined diagnosis beforehand and just explain what is wrong factually and they will be able to figure out exactly what is wrong.
