MY 83 YEAR OLD MOTHER HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM ON AND OFF FOR OVER A YEAR. USALLY IT WILL HAPPEN GETTING OUT OF BED, WITH OUT WARNING SHE JUST COLLASEDS ON TO THE FLOOR AND CAN'T GET BACK UP ON HER OWN. SHE SAYS THAT SHE JUST FEELS VERY WEAK AND HER LEGS JUST WON'T SUBPORT HER WEIGHR. BUT THE NEXT DAY SHE SEEM FINE. DO YOU MIGHT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS.? IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE AND MORE.
She might be having a drop in blood pressure upon rising from a laying position. This possibility you might be able to check out if you have/buy an Omron or equally respected home blood pressure monitor (can be bought over the counter) and use the easy instructions to take her blood pressure after she has been lying quietly for a few minutes, then again after she sits up and has been sitting for about a minute, then again after she has stood for at least a minute (if she can stay up that long). Have her sit on the edge of the bed for at least a minute or two before getting up on a regular basis and see if that helps her.
Further, leg weakness can potentially be a sign of a potassium deficiency, so have a doctor check her electrolytes including potassium to be sure they are in normal range. Also, be sure her doctor knows her symptoms so he can do a proper diagnostic work up on her to try to determine what is going on.
