HI:i I AM 76 YEARS OLD. I HAVE A DEFIB/PACEMAKER IMPLANT. I ALSO HAVE COPD. QUESTION. - THE ICD CLINIC HAS SET MY PACEMAKER TO 50 BPM. BECAUSE MY HEART BEAT IS LOWERED FROM NORM. DOES THIS CAUSE MY BODY OXYGEN RATE TO DROP? NORMALLY WHILE SITTING MY COUNT IS 93-96. WHEN I EXERT MYSELF (WALKING ETC) MY OXYGEN LEVEL DROPS DOWN TO 82-88 AND I WAS WONDERING IF THE LOWER HEART RATE IS AFFECTING MY BODY OXYGEN LEVEL
You are correct. I suspect there is a "missing piece" because pacemakers and not set that low. Demand pacemakers make have a system that cuts in if the heart rate falls below fifty beats. I suspect this is where the number fifty comes from. Go back to your cardiologist and present the issue.
