Genital herpes or UTI?

I had sex with my boyfriend multiple times a few days ago, soon after I experienced pain inside my vagina and thought it was just a cut. But then it started really stinging when urinating and I noticed the inside of the bottom part of my vagina was red and sore. I went to a sexual health clinic the next morning and a nurse said I might have genital herpes. The only person I have had sex with is my current boyfriend and he was tested directly before we started having sex for STDs and was clean. I don't understand how I would have got genital herpes if he was clean and we've been having sex for over 2 months and this is the first sign of a problem.
I have done some research and found that UTIs sometimes have similar symptoms to those I've been experiencing - stinging when urinating, odour when urinating first thing in morning. And also that they're common after being at a festival (I went to one a week ago)
But I'm confused as to what is wrong with me, please help!

Yes the nurse took a sample of urine and swabs I'm still awaiting results though.
I don't get blood in my urine but it does sting and I have felt the urge to go directly after urinating. I really hope it's only a UTI, Thankyou for your helpful response!

It sounds like a UTI to me.  Did she test your urine?  Is there blood in your urine?  Does it sting with urination and you need to go again soon after going?  But there isn't much?

Or is the pain more constant and more itchy like a yeast infection?  One of these two possibilities is the most likely, although it is also possible to have bacterial vaginosis or chlamydia.  Testing should be done.
