Not sure what to do

by graystone, Oct 27, 2009 11:58AM
I wasn't sure if i should have posted this question in the anxiety/depression or sexual health related threads but hopefully i can still get some help.

In late July I had been diagnosed with anxiety and it was said that depression didn't seem to be unlikely as well. My doctor had proscribed me a drug by the name of Cypralex (leaxpro) which i had taken up until about 2 weeks ago. This was because I had become severely dispersonal and anti social because of the "emotional numbness" i felt when on the drug. I had also experienced a drasticly  reduced sex drive and had almost lost the ability to have and maintain an erection. Because of this as well as a few problems of how i felt in regards to how the way i had been acting may have been affecting my social life, I had gone to the doctor and asked for a different proscription.

I am now currently taking Wellbutrin which is said to cause no sexually related problems or dysfunctions. I have been on this medication for about two weeks now and i feel that there has been no improvement in my sexual performance/ability. This has had a great impact on me and my relationship with my girlfriend whom i am in a serious relationship with.

I suppose what im really trying to ask is that it possible that wellbutrin may be affecting my sexual behaviour and ability as the other medication has, though it said that there shouldnt be problems? If not then is it possible the the cipralex that i had been taking 2 weeks ago is still affecting my sex life and is still in my system? Im only 19 so i was wondering if there was any sort of medication that i could ask for in order to assist me in being able to achieve a normal erection again. I would figure drugs that are used to assist in this would only be used for older males who are completely incapable though i suppose im still tempted to see if there is anything even within the same category that i could manage to have access to considering how desperate i am. I myself am not completely incapable though i find i am unable to manage an erection unless i stimulate myself manually. even then it appears to be only 70% as erect as it should be and is still fairly soft. I figure it could be the medication but what would be the best case of action in a situation such as this?

Some medication can take a little while to fully disperse from your system, especially if you have been taking it for atleast a few months. i wouldn't worry. give it a few more weeks, and if still no improvement then go to your doctor about your concerns. It may be that the new drug is also affecting your sex drive. even though it is said to not affect sex drive, any drug that you get prescribed will have more side effects than is written on its description leaflet. every person reacts differently. But if you find this medication helps with your anxiety, then its probably best to stay on it for the duration of your treatment. if you stay on it and sex drive continues to be low, you could always get prescribed viagra while you take the anxiety drug. Atleast that would be one less thing to worry about. But wither way i suggest talking to your doctor
