Pain during sex

I have been struggling with vaginal pain for approximately 6 months now.  I have been to the gyno 4-5 times.  I have been treated 2 times for BV.  My gyno said I have no STDs, etc, and no internal discharge.  I have yellow discharge right around the outer vagina.  I have extreme buring/pain and have been unable to have sex.  This has never been a problem during my marriage/relationship over the last 3 years.  My gyno is now saying if the current medicine doesn't get rid of my symptoms: Metronidazole twice daily for a week and once daily for a month, then she is not going to be able to help me.  Any suggestions/answers...???  At this point in time, it is now taking a toll on my emtional health because I have been unable to enjoy sex with my spouse for months.

So, my symptoms started off with Sept. 9th 2008 when I was doubled over in pain from what I thought was constipation, however in an hour when it was all over, the pain was in my lower back, Kidney area and thought maybe I had a kidney stone.  I went to have a checkup at my MD's office and he said I had a UTI, gave me Bactrim for a week.  A month later I went back to my MD's office and still had a UTI, he then gave me more Bactrim.  I started having area sensitivity which I thought was a yeast infection from the antibiotics.  There was a very yellow discharge, no smell, and redness with some burning pain.  I noticed I was uable to have sex, because during the initial penetration was the most intense, sharp pain ever.  I went to the GYNO and mentioned this during my normal yearly exam.  The GYNO did the normal pelvic exam; My pap came back abnormal and all my tests came back negative for STDs except the GYNO said I had bacterial vaginosis and treated me with Flagyl.  A few weeks later, same symptoms and I called the GYNO to see if I could have more tests and was worried about the abnormal pap.  She said not to worry since I had been on BC since 16 y/o she was not worried about cancer.  She did do more cultures and again said I had bacterial vaginosis and treated me yet again with Flagyl.

In the mean time, my primary MD was worried about the other symptoms and I saw a Urologist, had a proceedure and found no interstitial cystitis, or problems.  So I ruled out any urological problems as the culprit.  Went back to my gyno, explained this, and she yet again did cultures.  This time no BV, but bacteria, and she put me on the latest Flagyl twice daily for a week and once daily for a month.

I have only tried having intercourse like once or twice a month since November 2008 while all this was going on and every time I had pain, burning and some bleeding, bright red.  So I have not tried having sex since I started this latest treatment and am hoping through some miracle at the end of the treatment I will have no pain, no problems.

This is everything I can remember.  Any other suggestions.  I have scheduled my primary MD to take over my BC while I look for a new GYNO.

My first advice would be change Gynos. You know your body better then anyone out there, and there is a solution to your problem. Any doctor that says they are giving up, in my opinion is not a good doctor. Unfortunately from what little you have said about your symtoms, I can't really give you an answer to what it might be. If you can tell me a little more, I will try my best to help.
