Persistent Itchy, Smelly Vagina

About six months ago, I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis. I went on antibiotics, and things got better, although no completely. Now again for the last several months I have been experiencing more itchiness and a thick, smelly discharge. I went to the gynecologist again, and I tested negative for any STIs, bacterial vaginosis, or any type of infection at all. The gynecologist just said that sometimes people experience discomfort and itchiness permanently, and that I should try hydro-cortisone cream to relieve symptoms. However, it's been another couple of months, and I feel like there must be something else that I can do to help with the irritation and smelliness. So I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar problem and has any ideas about what I should do.
