This is 100% due to hormones and/or diet. I am on the opposite end of this spectrum, age wise; but with the exact same TWO problems (extremely excessive vaginal odor and underarm odor). I am 55 and have yet to go through menopause. I am not sexually active and smell extremely bad after using my vibrator and exercising. Coupled with this awful vaginal smell will be an intense body smell, as well. It is WORSE at certain times of the month; usually after ovulation. I didn't have this problem forever; excessive cleaning and NOT sweating when possible; used to keep this problem in check. I am horrifically embarrassed by this and haven't know what to do about it except to clean, clean, clean all the time. I often use progesteron cream during the second half of my cycle to regulate my body so that I can sleep at night. This always makes me have more energy and feel rested; but that's when the smell is at it's worse (henceforth, my belief that this is hormonally regulated). Being a young person as this original poster is; I am even more certain that this could be tied in to a hormonal issue. I even use vaginal sprays like Summers Eve but still the smell permiates. I have to constantly wash my clothes and even my car seat; that's how bad this problem is.
LMAO!! A Permanently smelly vagina??!?!?
Not true, but very funny nonetheless. It will just be much more difficult to treat and will, like any infection, spread. I've seen women who had to be on antibiotics for MONTHS. Huge Do Not Want.
Sooner rather than later. The longer you have a bacterial infection in the Vagina, the more likely you will develop a biofilm in there. At that point, you will have a permanently smelly vagina, and nothing you can do about it but complain like many of the female posters on this board.
Thank you for the replies.
I don't suffer from burning or itching, but there's always a little discharge like you described but it doesn't have any odor. I thought that was normal.
I've never been to a gynecologist, I'm too embarrassed. I posted here hoping to find an answer so I won't have to go but I guess I have to get over it at some point.
I just posted something similar to this if vaginal odor was related to the amount of pubic hair in some women. The answer I got was no and that a true odor (especially since my penis had the odor after sex) was a sign of bacteria in the vagina. Yet, you noted that you don't normally "smell" down there unless it is with an activity that is sex-related. Again, something similar to me - I was with a girl that was only 19 years old and she had the strongest scent of any women I've been with so I'm wondering if it is age-related as well. Keep us posted. You'll get input more from women on this so be patient. I'll keep it on my watch list.
Sorry I forgot to add that there is no hair at all "down there", so that could be ruled out.
If you are noticing an abrupt and different change in your body odor and sweat-it could be hormone related. I suggest you see your gyno first to rule out or confirm an infection and then after you talk to the doc about your above issues, he/she can order some blood work on you to see if anything is going on. If you don't have a gyno and just a primary care physician-same thing applies. Either way, if need be, they may refer you to an endocrinologist who specializes in hormone secretion.
Best of luck
