Weird vaginal sensation during intercourse

Hi I am a 20 year old female . I recently had mild vaginal itching , I took an over the counter medicine for yeast infections ( monistat one day ovule ) . The next day I went to the doctor for a pelvic exam she told me thier was no sign of any sti's . But she told me the same day and I was always under the impression it takes two days for the cultures to be examined. Anyways I decided to have sex with my boyfriend and the inside of my vagina had a gritty sensation every time he penetrated me . The only way I know how to describe the feeling is like sand was on the walls of my vagina. It didn't feel smooth and it hurt very badly . It kind of felt like the inside of my vagina had a bumpy surface and I couldn't feel much sensation . Sex just felt super gritty and painful. My boyfriend had given me oral before so I don't believe my vagina was dry . Could this be an std ? Has anyone else felt this sensation ? Could this possibly be a result of the medicine still inside my vagina ?

Hello,
I've used Monistat 1, and have never experienced what you've described. Monistat can cause side effects (most commonly burning sensations, extreme itchiness and excessive discharge), but gritty sounds a bit unusual. Get in contact with your doctor again, and explain what is going on. She might suggest that you come in for more tests, or another exam. You may want to abstain from sex until after this clears up.
