What to do?

by poolplayer, Apr 23, 2008 11:22PM
My Story,

I am a middle aged father of two beautiful boys with a wonderful wife. I have a good life and am a good Christian man in general, but I have one major flaw that upsets me quite a bit. I masterbate at least once or twice a week, to a wide variety of free pornography on the web, or thinking of attractive women while lying in bed at night. On occasion I have been know to masterbate in the bathroom stall at work or even in my car, after interactiving with attractive women.

I manage to conceal it very well from my family because of shame, and it seems to hurt no one. However, this behavior causes me anguish and distress, warring against God, plus what I know is right concerning morals/adultry. I have been fighting this affliction for many years with little success, and have never have been able to conquer it. Sometimes I think I have a disease or addiction.

Me thinks you might be on the wrong forum...  This is the social forum for addictions to drugs, alcohol, etc.
Click on Forums and you will see a long list.  Find the applicable one.
Good luck to you,
Yoda

He is on the right forum. I would say that you may be addicted to masterbation (masturbation). I think you will get a variety of opinions on this subject so here is mine. Conquer this is liking any other addiction. You have to take it one step at a time. one step at a time. But for the record, I don't really see that you have an addiction. I would say that you have an extremely high sex drive, and this is the only way to take care of it. Generally an addiction is something done in excess that you can not stop with your own free will. Once or twice a week just doesn't really constitute an addiction problem. If it really bothers you that you can not stop on your own, then maybe you should ask your paster for guidence.

This does not sound like a problem or unusual.  Both women and men fantasize.  I just think you should turn that high sex drive even more onto your wife.

It may be normal to fatasize but porn is a problem, when you keep going back to it. Porn and copmuter sex is an addiction and the more you keep doing it the more likely you are do do other things that would not be considered Christian. all the best

Every one that looks at porn is not an addict or even in danger of addiction.  Pornography is visual stimulation for many people.  Looking at porn does not serve as a stepping stone to doing other things.  People that want to do bad things will do them and always have done them long before porn was a few clicks away on the net

Porn is made by criminals for criminals. too many are addicted to it. it's not all harmless fun.

Porn is the worst part of what you are doing.  Fantasizing and masturbating once or twice a week is not abnormal (although doing it in the bathroom at work is over the top, imo).  But porn--now THAT is a problem.  The argument that lots of people look at it and think it's ok does not negate the fact that emotionally healthy, addiction-free young women do not participate in pornography.  There is serious exploitation involved (do some research on it).  And would you be ok if your little girl grew up to be in a porn movie?  Would you be ok at the thoughts of other guys masturbating to her videos?

If you can't avoid the porn altogether and you can't stop yourself from masturbating at work, then I would see a therapist about it.  But masturbation is normal if it isn't excessive or isn't done instead of having sex with your wife.
