i think its cuz they were going off my last period
but i wonder why on aug 11 they told me my due date was march15 but then my doctor told me the 29th :/ so confusing lol
Right, 7 weeks one day on August 11. That means, you count back 5 weeks one day to determine the time when you actually were fertile and conceived.
And that's July 6. Because you get two "free" weeks. I know it's confusing - I think really, you just have to accept it but not necessarily understand the counting formula.
When they do a US and measure the baby, they add two weeks to its gestational age to try to put the "beginning" of the pregnancy where they imagine you probably began your last regular menstrual cycle.
I know I'm not describing this very clearly, sorry. But July 6 is the date, if on Aug 11 they said you were 7 weeks 1 day.
regardless they still said the gestational age was 7 weeks and 1 day on august 11th
Okay, and I messed up I thought my cycles were shorter but they are longer I totally messed that up. They are 30 or 31 days long so does that mean I still conceived in July?
BTW, this system goes back to when they couldn't date a pregnancy any better than calculating from a normal menstrual cycle.
Before sonograms, and quantitative blood tests, all they had was when was your last period? And then they count from there. Now, for some reason, they still count from there.
You conceived around July 6, not June 6.
This gets confusing when you don't have a 28 day cycle.
Doctors calculate your pregnancy "beginning" back to the first day of your last menstrual cycle, although they know the pregnancy doesn't actually begin until ovulation which, in most women, is 2 weeks after the menstrual period begins. So in effect, you get two "free" weeks at the beginning of the pregnancy when you weren't actually pregnant yet.
In a 28 day cycle woman, the day her period is missed, she's calculated to be 4 weeks pregnant (theoretically calculating back to the beginning of her period).
So when they do an ultrasound, and discover that you conceived 5 weeks and one day ago, you get two free weeks and they calculate your pregnancy to be 7 weeks one day along.
Because they know you conceived 5 weeks and one day ago.
wait, they told me on aug 11th i was 7 weeks and 1 day but that was the gestational age so did i still conceive around june 6th?
i understand! (: thank you!
There's a lot of confusing stuff in your post because of how the medical community dates a pregnancy, and your cycles are shorter so all that is kind of extraneous, incorrect information.
You have a due date of March 29, 2014 based on something. If they did a US at the hospital to determine how far along you were, that's extremely accurate and points to the same exact day as your doctor is pointing to - July 6 as your most likely day of conception.
The June 22 date of beginning your first trimester would estimate, if you had typical 28 day cycles, of when your last regular cycle began. As it is, it's meaningless for you because your cycles aren't 28 days.
The two things that seem correct, and that matter, are your due date March 29 and your conception date July 6.
