masterbation

I am a born again christian and I have a serious concern about self satisfaction and lustful thoughts.  I should probably do a bible study regarding this and the heart of God.  Is it sinful to masterbate and have lustful thoughts?  I want to be a faithful believer and strive to be holy but I am struggling with this area in my life.

Where did all the evolution stuff come from?  If you say that man is an animal than you clearly don't understand the Bible and Jesus. God says we are made in the likeness of God. He wants us to have the character that he has - one of purity/holiness, love and righteousness. It's certainly not easy and this takes dedication but if you truly have a desire to do what he wants of us, the desire will no longer plague you.

If you read the Bible, Paul struggled with the carnal man too but he was able to overcome it. Each of us has our burdens and problems but he doesn't give us more than we are able to bear. Keep praying and studying. The fact that you've come to believe masturbation may be wrong is a good indication that the holy spirit is working - pointing out the areas that need work and convicting you of your sin. Do keep studying... you have a heaven to win and a hell to shun.

1 Thess. 4:2-5, "For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God."

I am concerned at your advice to Skip, poor guy. Don't you know we are humans and made this way. There is a balance.  God did allow him to be born in an age of the most historical perversions. Never before has temptation been so strong on the man. Everywhere you look the is a sexy women half naked ready for you as men to bow down and worship her. The funny thing is they are so photo-shopped up, it is not real anymore. But what I say is if you, as a man, abstain from any and allllll ejaculating. This could be harmful to him physically and mentally. It is what God mad the man to do. PROCREATE. Have a little grace man. If you masturbate then don't get perverted. And what do you mean "outsiders"? We are all of the human Geno. There are no outsiders here. Lets think with a balance.

being a good Christian and dealing with matters of sex and sin isn't as daunting as most outsiders would think. We're taught that we are flawed beings with the potential for continuous self-improvement, and that our force of will should be strong enough to overcome base and useless temptation. We are not born as saints.
I would hope that your pastor would tell you to set goals and forgive yourself when you fall short. Masturbation is sinful especially when it's used as a substitute for intimacy and for seeking fulfillment in our personal lives- when it interferes with living the satisfying, content life that we have the potential to build for ourselves. That being said, we're given an animal's body and drives, but a divine nature- you need to accept that giving in to your baser needs is going to happen sometimes- what it most important is that you don't let it become a hobby that substitutes the human need for company and fulfillment from the people around us. Finding a balance between acceptance of normal human flaws and living the most Christian life you can is what gives us the grace to carry on.

You really should not condemn yourself. Masturbation is totally natural and normal. Men are creatures made in the image of God.  They were also made to procreate and populate. Embrace you natural instincts but don't play around too much with those lustful thoughts. I am certainly not a male but I do know it is healthy to ejaculate. let off the pressure. And when you start to have crazy lustful thoughts... Think of those thoughts like this... Does a bird land in a tree? Yes. Do you have to let it build its nest there? No. bird = thoughts, tree= your mind. And I am sure you have heard that one before. If you are going to pray. Ask for the balance. Do not go all crazy and just pull a celibacy vow card. That is like fasting in America not the Congo. Too many fast food joints everywhere. you will go crazy. Good luck bro.

I think avoiding masturbation is probably easier than avoiding lustful thoughts, since one can have a thought pretty much any time, and masturbation is an action that the person can control.  You could talk to your pastor to find your particular church's ideas on both issues (if you would not find that too embarrassing).  I might mention that when Jimmy Carter was interviewed once he commented that God understands if someone looks at a woman with lust in his heart.  (He got a whole lot of flack for that comment, but I thought it was generally a very understanding thing to say about the human condition.  We can't control everything about our mind.)
