sex after giving birth

its been 5weeks since i gave birth.i had an episiotomy done.my husband and i want to have sex but i refuse to because i am afraid that the incision will open.i want to know when it will heal completely to have sex without pain or discomfort and also can anyone give me advice on what to do or use when i have sex for my 1st time after giving birth and will it hurt?

I agree, wait for doctor's clearance.  Let your hubby know that you *have* to wait, otherwise you could end up hurt, and he would have to wait even longer.  And yes, it may hurt a littlem, but it shouldn't be too bad.  Just go slow, use lube, etc.  btw, I have had stitches with all four of my babies, and we have waited between 3-5 weeks each time.  Also, get on b/c asap.

Your supposed to wait 6 weeks after giving birth. Do you have your 6 week appointment set up yet? Your Dr will let you know if it's alright for you and your husband to have sex. You could be a little bit sore or maybe not at all. If you don't want to become pregnant again right away use condoms. Even if you plan to go on the pill you could get pregnant the first month your on them. I hope this helps. Congratulations on your new baby. Remar
