vaginal irritation

I've been on an antibiotic for a week,  my vagina has become irritated...when applying a cream to it felt something deep in...could it be a prolapsed uterus, or what?  It just started it today,   I tried a vinegar douche plus  for some vagisil for relief of discomfort. but It seems to have aggravated it...should I just wait until it goes away or what?

You do not say what type of cream you applied to your vagina.
Please do not ever douche.  I know this used to be done a log time ago, but things have moved on.  Douching changes the PH level and encourages the bad bacteria to multiply.  We have good and bad bacteria on our bodies and usually there is no problem.

You have had a week of antibiotics and using antibiotics like Elschmer says destroys the good as well as the bad bacteria and brings about Thrush.

You can get from your doctor a prescription for an antifungal cream to apply to the genital area as well as an oral one dose capsule called Fluconazole 150mg which you swallow with a glass of water.  You can also buy these from the pharmacist.  As you live in a different country to me, ask the pharmacist for the antifungal cream to be applied to the vagina if you wish to purchase this yourself.  In the UK we use Canesten, Canesten HC, and also Trimovate which are applied sparingly to the problem area.

At home do not use any soap to wash down below or any shower gels or feminine sprays.  This will aggravate your skin more.  I find adding a couple of handfuls of oats into my bath helps.  Also natural set yogurt applied to the genital area will also help to relieve any aggravation.  The yogurt will help to alleviate any itching, burning sensation and also helps to relieve any inflammation.    Only use non-biological detergents, fabric softeners that are for sensitive skin and wear cotton underwear.  Don't wear tights and tight trousers.  Knee highs are better.  Tights will make you sweat and encourage Thrush.

As you 78 years of age, I would suggest you make an appointment with your doctor so that he can examine you, take a swab to see if it is Thrush that you have or not.  At the age you are, it is not uncommon to have an irritated vagina due to lack of hormones that help to lubricate the vagina.

Your doctor will be able to let you know whether a hormone cream may be more suitable for you and also examine you to make sure that you do not have a prolapse of the womb and give you advice on this if he/she finds that it is a prolapse.

Hope you get on OK.
Best wishes.

I'm not surprised the vinegar douche aggravated your vaginal irritation. It's very acidic and would have only irritated the already inflamed area even more.
It's unwise to douche at the best of times but this is even more important if you have any kind of discomfort and irritation. It's not uncommon for women to get thrush whilst taking antibiotics as the medication has the effect of also killing of the good bacteria in the vagina that keeps it healthy. This can alter the ph level within the vagina and allow fungal infections such as thrush to grow and become a problem. The symptoms you describe are indicative of this kind of infection.
Douching itself can alter the vaginal environment negatively and you run a high risk of forcing the normal bacteria,or in this case, the candida infection higher up into the reproductive tract. From there is can spread to the Fallopian tubes and even into the abdominal cavity. Doctors advise not to douche due to the large number of cases of infertility it has caused. Should an infection reach the abdominal cavity and develop into peritonitis it can result in death.
Most places now sell anti fungal cream or pessaries over the counter so you may not need to see a doctor. Just make sure you get one formulated for vaginal use as the cream designed for external skin should not be used internally. This should settle the symptoms down quickly. If the irritation is unbearable you could ask your doctor if they advise you use a steroid cream.
I agree you are more than likely touching your cervix. If it feels firm like the tip of your nose it's probably your cervix.
Please, please think carefully about douching again as doctors warn against the risks.

I think you have a yeast infection.  When you finish the antibiotics, start oral probiotic and either diflucan or a cream for yeast.  Cut out sugar for a while.

You could be feeling your cervix I imagine.
