When using the Nuva ring It's removed once a week for your period, Then you replace it with a new one once the 7 days are up. I was wondering if your covered during that week, that the nuva ring isn't being used?.

Hello.

Whoa! Please don't remove the Nuva ring weekly. You only remove it ONCE A MONTH, and THEN after 7 days, you replace it. During those 7 days, you'll get your period. And the contraceptive in the Nuva Ring will protect you from pregnancy. But be sure to insert a new ring after 7 days. The Nuva Ring is as effective as oral contraceptives (“the pill”)—99% if used properly.

For more information, go to the Nuva Ring site at

You should always learn as much as possible about any contraceptive prior to using it. Dr. J
