Vaginal Tissue proliferation

by bubbletoes, Sep 27, 2009 03:26PM
I have recently noticied periods of vaginal itching whih prompted me to "take a look." I havent noticed an odor or odd color to my discharge.  I noticed that around my vaginal opening it looks like the tissue has thickened...and above the vaginal opening below the urinary meatus is thicked as well almost like a proliferation of tissue...like fingerlike extensions.  I looked some stuff up and it doesnt look like warts or like vestibular papillae.  I visited the gyn and she took a vaginal culture and stated that it looked like normal tissue or skin tags. I dont think it looks like skin tags, especially considering the location, and know that it does not look like my "normal."  Im concerned.  I also have a history of abnormal paps with dysplasia and positive HPV in the past.  My last 3 have come back normal however.  What do you think it is, and should I ask my gyn for a biopsy?  Im scared it may be squamous hyperplasia or something more serious? Also despite my lack of odor or color to my discharge, the gyn stated that my culture came back positive for gardnerella and has started me on flagyl.

Hi.

I'm not a gynecologist--and even if I WERE, I couldn't tell you anything without doing a thorough exam. Do you seriously think your own gynecologist wouldn't recognize something dangerous like hyperlasia or something more serious? Sounds like you're worrying yourself over nothing. Unless, of course, you don't trust your gynecologist for some reason. I think you either need to get a second opinion or tell your gynecologist what you've just told me and ask for more clarification. Best of luck to you. Dr. J.
