Vaginal tear

After very vigerous sex with my partner I found an inch long split in the skin to the side of my vagina going up towards my clitoris. It isn't too painful, I have applied sudocrem cream. I know this has been caused by the skin being stretched as my partner did insert four fingers inside me which we did have to stop due to discomfort. Has this happened to anyone else, if so how long does it take to heal?. I have avoided sex and will continue to do so until the split has healed completely.

Hi Shelby:

Yes, it's happened to many women. I'm glad you stopped because of discomfort.

And definitely give it time to heal. The danger here is from infection. Be sure to use a mild cream, such as you're using, until it heals; and stay away from any soap that contains perfume or alcohol.

If you enjoy your partner inserting fingers, great. But four is obviously too many. And make sure to use lube. If you're simply doing it for his pleasure, I'd urge you to talk with him about this. Dr. J
