Black Spots on Nipple

I am a 27yr old male with no prior skin problems. I had my left nipple pierced a few years ago, but have had it out and healed for over 2yrs.
Today, I noticed for the first time, there are small black spots on my nipple in and around where the piercing had been. They are only around one side of the piercing, and almost look like blackheads. I am unsure how long they have been there, but as I said, I just noticed them today. I squeezed them to see if they were blackheads, but had no success.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea what it may be? Thank you for your help!
