Do I have cancer or not?

My doctor wrote this down after my biopsy and I just don't understand.

"Microscopic Description: Black: There is elongation of the rete ridges with atypical melanocytic proliferation in a single cells and nests. The epidermal component is seen to extend beyond the confines of the dermal component. Papillary fibrosis is noted. Dermal nests show maturation."

What does that mean and he said I need to get plastic surgery, do I have skin cancer and if so what kind?

If you had cancer you would have been told you have it. I doubt a doctor would just give a piece of paper with a load of medical jargon on it that you obviously wouldn't understand. Have you had the results or did you see what he was writing down?

I'm not a doctor but have had many atypical moles as the first part describes.  Atypical are not cancer yet but can turn into it .. they aren't normal in appearance but aren't melanoma either .. the melanocytes have something to do with the melanoma type of atypical cells I think.  I'm a patient whose had a very early Melanoma removed and may aytpical ones removed prior to the melanoma. Depending where it is and how large/deep the incision to the margin area is, etc. determines course of treatment and whether graft is necessary, too.

Good ? .. but I'd call your Dr. to clarify it.
