Hi to everyone. I wasn't able to find a different platform for doing this, but wanted to introduce myself to the rest of this community.
You can call me Angi, and reason for being here is to learn and lend support. Sounds odd, I know, I do not currently suffer from Skin Cancer, but I am passionate about support & awareness.
My dad passed away in 2000 from lung cancer - he was misdiagnosed (was told for 3 years that it was arthiritis) and at the time they found it he had a few months to live. It was a very sad time, and I have to admit, I still carry a little resentment towards that doctor that wasn't thorough enough. I guess everything happens for a reason. Or so they say.
Long story short - I was alone, and scared, and didn't know what to expect, and had no-one to talk to... This is why I learn, and this is why I want to frequent forums like these. If I could help just one person out by lending an ear or a shoulder, I will be so happy to have been able to help in some small way.
Skin Cancer especially speaks to me, because of the fact that in my country, outdoor living is a big part of our everyday lives. We are an active people, and the sunshine plays a large role in our social lives. Only other problem is: we're a little ignorant, or as a good friend put it the other day: "arrogant" when it comes to the dangers and damages of the sun and what the consequences are.
To try and raise awareness, and to lend support here and there, I have started a website (but will not link it, I feel it would be very rude to do so before you all know me well enough to know that I'm sincere) and this has become my life's work. So if you have a question, since I research every day, feel free to ask, I will honestly try to help if I can. Otherwise, if you need someone to just listen, my door (or inbox) is always open.
I look forward to getting to know you all a bit better.
Warm regards,
Angi
