REALLY suspicious freckle

I've had a freckle on the side of my nose for YEARS, and about 2 maybe even 3 years ago I started watching it. I asked my mom (I was living at home then) and she said not to worry about it. About a year ago I noticed that it looks cracked, almost like a snake all scrunched up (in shape)...and I'm worried it may be cancer - and I'm even MORE worried that its gone on for this long...should I be worried? I have an appointment with the derm in a MONTH, but should I be worried???
