further treatment

My 67 year old father was treated for SCC between ear and sideburn (right on the cartilage). He had 3 surgeries this summer about 6 cm across towards his cheek and jaw and then MOHS with margins clear. Now his Dr. is suggesting radiation because the area is so close to lymph nodes and he fears spreading. Is this normal protocol or should we get another opinion. He is a lung cancer survivor, aortic aneurysm survivor, and heart attack survivor. He is getting tired of the Medical system.
