supsicious mole

by BEE11, Sep 09, 2008 08:06PM
I was born with a dark mole on my leg, its about 4 or 5 mm in diameter, and until recently it wasn't of any worry to me. Then one day i found that my mole was peeling, a layer of skin only on the mole and not around the surrounding areas peeled. One side of the mole scabbed after i pulled off the layer, and I've been worried ever since. Could this be a sign a something far more serious, like skin cancer, or is it just normal-skin removing layers.

Watch for the ABCD's of melanoma. Is the mole assymetrical ( if you traced the shape and cut it out, could you fold it in half and one side wouldn't be the same shapre as the other side), are the borders notched or regular?, is it one colour or multi-coloured, and has it changed (colour or size, or bleeding/crusting)? Yours sounds like it has crusting from trauma. After it heals keep an eye on it for any changing and show your doctor next time you visit.
If it keeps crusting or doesn't heal or changes in any other way, see a doctor immediately.
