I WAS TAKING 1/2 THE DOSE OF OVER THE COUNTER SLEEP AID FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS ON A NIGHTLY BASIS, AND STARTING HAVING TOLERANCE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTONS. I QUIT COLD TURKEY AND WENT INTO FULL BLAST WITHDRAWAL. I HAD HUGE PANIC ATTACKS, MAJOR ANXIETY,NIGHT SWEATS, NIGHTMARES, SLEEPLESSNESS, HEIGHTENED SENSORIES,FEAR OF ALMOST EVERYTHING, LOSS OF APPETITE, WEIGHT LOSS,OBSESSIVE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS, THIS IS MY THIRD WK GOING THRU IT AND I'M STARING TO FEEL A LITTLE BETTER, THE FEELINGS FLUCTUATE AT TIME, THE PANICK ATTACKS HAVE SUBSIDED, BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME ANNOYING SYMPTONS. IF ANYONE HAS BEEN THRU THIS, AND KNOW WHAT THE SYMPTONS ARE WHEN WITHDRAWAL IS ENDING PLEASE REPLY. MAYBE JUST A LITTLE ENCOURAGEMENT CAN DRIVE THIS DEMON AWAY FASTER AND PUT MY MIND AT EASE. MAY GOD BE WITH YOU ALL THAT IARE EXPERIENCING THIS ABOMINATION!!! AND GODS SPEED..........

Hi, welcome to the forum, commonly used sedatives are benzodiazepine. Yes, it can cause withdrawal symptoms if you discontinue abruptly. In some patient symptoms like choreiform movements, coordination abnormal, muscle weakness, myalgia and tremor are noted.

If the problems are bothersome then you may have to go for anti anxiety drugs against prescription for short term only. It will help you to alleviate your symptoms. As a rule discontinuation of the drug should be by gradually tapering it under the guidance of your doctor as it is known to cause withdrawal effects.
