Brain shutdown

Basically i have this problem. I have narrowed it down over time and feel i can give an apt description of it now.
Basically i get extremely tired and my eyes begin to close when i am in a position in which i am doing little.
For example, at work. I am working along fine, doing my job, but a ssoon as i stop and get some extra training or observe someone doing a job attempting to teach me i shut down. I can not listen and almost pass out.

Even yesterday at an excursion i was STANDING UP and just because my brain was not exactly stimulated i almost fell asleep standing up, and i don't mean i am tired, i mean i nearly fell over due to my legs giving way.

I am worried of this becoming more dangerous. My diet is average, nothing great, but i am not unhealthy. I am 5ft9 at 65-70kgs. I am unfit do to not much cardio activity however i do occasionally workout.

Thanks for any help

Oh I so would get a sleep study. You sort of sound like you may have narcolepsy with cataplexy. I don't know. I am not a doctor, however I have narcolepsy myself. You sure sound like it. To see about a sleep study exactly I suggest the site http://www.talkaboutsleep.com it offers a lot of great information but it shows you what it's like and where to go, all over the world.

I had a blood test about 6 or so months back. I came up all clear. I was a little high in iron, however that was due to me taking multivitamin pills about 4 days prior to test. Since i was high in iron i stopped taking those pills. My night sleep is adequate, i try to get at least 7 hours sleep, and usually i attain such a thing.

I can be doing something and be doing it whilst being wide awake, but as soon as i stop doing that task i become tired, bored, and sleepy. But just my brain, my body feels fine.

What is a sleep study? I live in Australia by the way.
Thanks

Hi. Have you had a medical checkup to rule out things like high or low blood sugar, thyroid trouble, anemia, etc.?

How is your sleep? Enough of it? Quality? If you feel you have excessive daytime sleepiness or have uncontrollable desire to sleep, it could be a sign of an underlying sleep disorder. If your daytime functioning is compromised, might be time to get a sleep study.
