CSF for hypocretins

My Neuro guy sent me for a Lumbar puncture. I have narcolepsy and he decided he wanted to measure hypocretins. I have a lumbar spinal fusion, they tried 3 times, even under fluroscopy--no success. Now they are talking going in through the cervical spine to collect CSF. I have trying desperately to search for information on this procedure, but cannot find a thing. Could you please tell me EXACTLY what the medical term is for doing a spinal tap in the neck?
Thanks,
Shell38

Hi Shell, How are you doing? How is your sleep these days? I hope you might have got some reference for knowing something about how and why the cervical puncture is done. You need to discuss in details regarding the procedure you may be undergoing, its usefulness and the consequences thereafter. I do understand how anxious you are because of the first test failure i.e. Lumbar puncture. You may not be able to understand fully the procedure on going through the net, so better to talk to your doctor who might perform the procedure. Keep updating on your test results and progress. Take care.

Hi Shell, how are doing? You could discuss in detail with the doctor performing the procedure on you. Since lumbar puncture failed to yield any cerebro spinal fluid for evaluation, there is no point in further trying at the same site or later date. This might be reason why they have decided to do it in neck region. If you are so anxious you can search wiht cervical puncture to get details but always better to you can clarify your doubts with your performing doctor. Take care and keep updating on your progress.
