I took elavil for 12 years for fibromyalgia. I wanted to get off it because of side affects, wondered if I still needed it and it wasn't as effectiveEffective strength cough syrup as it was when I started (new drugs had come out for fibromyalgia). My doctor said it would be hard to stop so I waited until I retired. Unfortunately my doctor left his practice so I have a new doctor who said to just stop the elavil and in 3 days start Lyrica. I haven't slept since. When I said the Lyrica wasn't working the doctor gave me clonatrin, then trazadone. He never worked with me. I see now the side affects I had were probably the withdrawal of elavil not the many medications he gave me, although they have probably contributed to my sleepless state. My doctor said he didn't know what to do so for me to find a sleep specialist - this was relayed through his assistant. The sleep specialist said the sleep study showed I woke up 46x an hour but he didn't know why. I have slight apnea but he feels the cpac will take care of it along with a prescription for ambian - more drugs. I am still not sleeping - its been 4 months now. I think my brain is screwed up. Am I crazy for thinking that?
