Dreams continue while awake

I'm having a lot of trouble finding anything online about this.  Most of the the results are about sleep paralysis.

I frequently have this thing where I "wake up" from a dream, but the dream will still be going on?  It's difficult to explain.  I'm pretty sure I've never hallucinated anything, and I'm totally conscious.  I walk around, my eyes are open, I'm in total control of my actions..., but in my mind the dream is still going on.

One time, my mother knocked on my door really early in the morning, and woke me up from a dream where we all went bowling (idk).  When I opened the door I just started yelling at her about how she needed to take her second turn.  I closed the door and promptly got back in bed.  She thought I was high and searched my room for marijuana.  I remember everything about this perfectly, I was definitely awake.  This happens a lot, it's really weird and I want to know why it keeps happening lol.
