Help i havent been able to sleep for weeks

Hello ... I thought I share my story with everyone.. on Sept 29th It all started ... I was going through a stressful time with a new job and family ... I could not sleep that night. Everynight since that night i have not gotten much sleep if any at all. I went to my general doctor ... A neurologist and a physic doc. They all think this is stress anixety related... Will i been reading online a lot and learned about FFI which is the fatal insomia diease... I learned it was mostly genentic but also there been cases of people who did not have the gene... I don't have any family history that i am aware of that got this diease but I have had a couple CT scans recently for various medical reasons and now I started to think maybe the radiation from those scans caused a protein in my brain to misfold causing FFI... I no it sounds crazy but all my symptoms match FFI and no medicines I have tried put me to sleep at all .... I guess I just came here to get this off my chest but its been 18 days now with out hardly if any sleep .. this is horriable my ears started to ring recently and maybe due to my thalamus being damaged ... Anyone ever experience this ??? For this long

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Understand your predicament.
Disturbed or restlessness in sleep could be due a sleep disorder. These disorders can be like obstructive sleep apnea, wherein during sleep there is an obstruction to airflow due to laxity of the throat muscles during sleep and this could cause restlessness.hence for therapy CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is used to keep it patent. Another cause could be an entity called restless leg syndrome, where there is an odd sensation in the legs during sleep causing the individual to move, which relieves the sensation. These disorders can cause inadequate sleep leading to fatigue and daytime sleepiness. So, I would advise you to consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. He may then ask for a sleep study called polysomnography for further evaluation.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hello and hope you are doing well.

To begin with take a deep breath and relax. Nothing is as frightening or as difficult as it appears to be. Its unlikely to be FFI. Also, CTs will not damage the brain. You should not keep thinking about sleeplessness, as this in turn promotes insomnia and it becomes a vicious cycle.

You should stop becoming anxious and try to relax. Try to have a warm bath before sleeping. Have a glass of milk or read a book before trying to sleep. Don’t watch TV or do exercise before sleeping. Condition yourself that you can relax and that you can sleep well.
Try yoga and meditation they have calming effects. Go for long stress free walks. Also, do exercise in the daytime this promotes good sleep.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

I know what you're feeling.  I had a period of sleep deprivation during about the same time.  And it's not resolved entirely yet, although my sleep doc switched me from Ambien/Prosom to Xyrem and that has started to give some relief.  It doesn't seem right that insomnia goes with narcolepsy, but it does, at night.  But I know I'd much rather be too sleepy than have insomnia.  There were a couple of weeks last month when I thought I was going to die.  I've had stress-produced insomnia too, and taken anti-stress drugs too.  Be careful if you take any of them for more than a month.  That includes sleeping pills, especially Ambien.  Do NOT suddenly discontinue taking them!  Your anxiety will rebound and go off the chart.  That is the very worst feeling in the world!

Have you been to a neurologist? He e your doc order a sleep study. Going that long without sleep is potentially dangerous. I would definitely ask for a sleep study.

Have they prescribed anything to help you sleep? I have auto-immune disease, thyroid disease, fibromyalgia, Reynaud's .Phenomenon and back and neck injuries and I don't sleep at all pwithout meds. I have a lot of chronic pain and I take 1000 mg of hydrocodone, plus neurontin, plus temazepam and I am lucky to get 3-4 hours of sleep. I don't get REM sleep, don't dream vey often. It is very debilitating.
