I can't sleep on my back!

This drives me insane. After having a child, my hips still hurt and it's troublesome to always lay in one position. I've never been able to sleep on my back.. I feel like I can't breathe.. My mother has always known if I was sick because I would roll onto my back and start gasping.. The only time I can is when I am terribly sick and happen to roll onto my back.

Is there any way to possibly 'trick' my brain into letting me sleep on my back?

i have the same problem... besides the child part and the sick part lol. i have tried the recliner and couch recliner thing. good thinking. it did work for me one time when i was at a friends... however i fell asleep watching T.V. on the recliner when i really ment to move to the couch just to the right of me to sleep on. well my friends dad complained of very VERY loud snoring coming from me.
by the way i woke up in the middle of the night and i could not go back to sleep on my back. it sucked and i wish i could sleep on my back.

when i was younger i could but now i cannot

It sounds odd but have you tried sleeping on a recliner or couch on your back?  maybe it is just a bed thing?  just curious.
