I have mild sleep apnea

by samraj08, Sep 01, 2008 11:35AM
Dear sir / madam.
I had a sleep test at St Thomas hospital recently and was told i have a mild version of sleep apnea, waking to a degree a few times an hour.
I was reccomended a sleep aid,a plastic appliance to put in my mouth, "Sleep wizard".
I have found this very difficult to use. I was wondering of you have any further suggestions.
At present i have had this problem for about 3 years and i have been waking up tired.
I have been feeling exhausted.
Thank-you.
Gavin

Sometimes those with mild sleep apnea benefit from the mouthpieces, but others need a cpap machine. If you have a copy of your full results (not just summary), check and see if your apneas were mostly when on your back or if also on your side. If most were on your back, making a point to side sleep only, in addition to elevating the head of your bed, along with using the dental appliance may suffice.

Otherwise, a cpap machine is a pretty surefire way of treating your apnea effectively. If you are still suffering the effects of sleep apnea as in sleepy and tired, it is having other adverse health effects. Did your doctor put you back in the sleep lab to assure your dental device had resolved your apnea? If you told him you were still tired, he should have. You can ask your doctor to order a lab titration on cpap and go that route.
