Hello,
Understand your predicament. But the more anxious you get, the more difficulty you will have falling asleep and this becomes a vicious cycle. So, the best way would be to stop thinking about sleep and your sleeplessness. Sleep aids might help with temporary insomnia, but please don't venture to take sedatives without the supervision of a doctor. Your symptoms indicate that you may be suffering from severe anxiety. You need medical help and counseling. I would advise you to consult your primary care physician at the earliest for re evaluation, who may then refer you to a psychiatrist if the need arises. In the meantime try yoga and meditation they have calming effects. Go for long stress free walks. Take Care and Hope this helps!
You are not going mad! Whoever prescribed your meds. has probably told you this?Having experienced similar horrors I understand how rotten these problems are. Took lots of meds/therapy (CBT) support from many others to get me on track again, but be assured you too can get there. Breathing slowly/deeply to relax does help, the fear of being unable to sleep's a huge factor in how you feel. The aim's not to get 'knocked out' but to sleep. Maybe you should have another talk with your Doc. & see what he/she recommends. No need to continue to suffer, You are not alone or unique in having mental problems. Wish you some peace of mind soon. Good Luck
