Need help. Scared, confused, curious.

Hello.

I don't know what to make of this situation i go through when i sleep sometimes. I don't know if im just hallucinating, or if there are real demonic, or other-dimensional entities im seeing. I've been through this thing called sleep paralysis about 5 or 6 times now, and its the most frightening thing i've ever experienced.

One time that i went through this experience, i astral projected, or had an out of body experience. i arose out of my own physical body and floated in mid air, and then i saw this ungodly looking monster gazing up on me, walking towards me. i woke up out of fear. Again this was the one time when i actually astrally projected.

Other times i go through sleep paralysis, i either hear voices, or sence this overwhelming cloud of darkness/negativity around me, or hovering above me.
Is this anything spiritual at all?? or is this just some common nightmare-esque problem that im dealing with. i already know theres some science behind SP, that the brain secrets a chemical that paralysis the body, and prevents you from acting out your dreams, hence the reason that you can't physically move when going through SP.

So i guess my question, or questions are: Are these real spirits? or is this a common nightmare hallucination? And how can i make astral projecting a positive experience, (or wonderful which i've heard it can be) instead of a haunting experience that makes me somewhat paranoid to sleep at night somtimes?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Sleep paralysis is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. When this happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive day time sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnogogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. You will need to consult your primary care physician, who may schedule you for a polysomnogram (sleep test) to rule out sleep disorders and initiate appropriate therapy.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

umm, thank you for trying to help. but i know what narcolepsy is, and i don't have it lol. and the science behind sleep paralysis makes sense. you aren't supposed to be able to move, you're actually supposed to be paralyzed to prevent from acting out your dreams. but i have no problem with this happening to me. my question was.. what the hell do i make of whats happening around when it does happen??? because it seems somewhat supernatural. now i will grant you the hypnogogic hallucinations part, but that still doesn't explain the noises, and just the sense of evil i get, like i can get this feeling without even looking at anything during SP

Hello and hope you are doing well.

The sensations can also be described as hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. If troublesome, may need to consult your doctor. Warm regards.
