I cannot speak to the c-spine issues. I have heard of people developing sleep apnea after injuries, but whether your neck condition could cause your nightmares is way out of my league. I can say that before my diagnosis with obstructive sleep apnea for years I had bad dreams and in them someone or something was either suffocating, drowning, couldn't breathe, etc. Haven't had one of those dreams since my cpap treatment is working for my apnea. Cause and effect? I think so. Often our dreams are the mind's way of weaving a story around a physical sensation we are feeling. Who hasn't dreamed of being in a bathroom somewhere and woke up about to pee on themself? (My dream had me at the park in one of those outhouses.) But about your sense of passing out in the dreams, apnea can cause drops in oxygen in the blood and to the brain. Who knows what dreams that could cause. If you have any other symptoms that could be apnea talk to your doctor about a sleep study.

Oh, and about your neck, don't know what the tests showed, but I have bulging disks in the same location. I was having episodes of nearly losing consciousness frequently. In physical therapy I learned about positioning my neck for the least amount of stress to it, particularly keeping my head from tilting back or chin from jutting forward. Had to not sleep on many pillows because my head would slip into all the wrong positions.

Sounds like you're going to be working with your docs for a while here. Hope you find some actual answers.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I've lived with similar dreams, and at one point I'd go days and not go to sleep because I was too scared of the dreams. Since all your symptoms happen at night, my guess is they'll want to watch you sleep at a sleep study. Good luck.

Thank you for your comment. atleast it gave me some idea and I am not alone. it just come and go if it happens often I will surely do that. about my spine issue its rt. sided cord impingement due to a focal disc herniation. about the sleep apnea I am not sure it doesnt happen every night and its embarrasing to say but it is VERY difficult for me to sleep away from my husband. I cant sleep probably .unless they will give me a sleeping pill. can they do that? again thank you

About a pill to sleep, it is common for doctors to prescribe something to encourage sleep during a sleep study since sleeping in a strange place with the wrires and all is not conducive to sleep anyhow. You usually have to make those arrangements ahead of time with the doctor so you can have the pill to take with you. Easier to do it up front than to have to return another night because of not sleeping. Best wishes.
