Nightmares and/or jolting terror

For the past couple of months I've been experiencing these sensations during sleep that cause me to jolt awake screaming (yelling) like I'm being killed or something extremely violent is happening to me.  It's not a nightmare in that there's nothing tangible in the dream ie: people, places, or things.  It's a sensation, almost like a jarring or jolting sensation that feels very violent, to the point that I instantly wake up usually yelling at the top of my lungs.  I'm an adult who's 38 years old too; most of the nightmares or terrors I've read about are involving children.  It's almost like a horrible car crash or something?  I've been having these re-occuring about 3 times a week now and I've been logging them in my journal.  Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?  Please share your thoughts...

Hi,

This is probably night terrors. Did you experience any traumatic event in last few months?
I would suggest you get a sleep study done.Good luck!

Hi.

Do you remember what you saw after you wake up ? Have you read about "Night terrors" ? They are a kind of sleep disorder. Adults as well as children suffer. You should consult a sleep specialist. May be, get a sleep study done.

Regards

I to have been suffering from Nightmares or are they???? I wake up everynight 2-3 times screaming like someone is killing me, but when I wake I see a shadow figure of someone. I can never make it out who it is but I feel like someone is doing harm to me or is about to do harm to me. I have suffered some trauma in my life but OMG I feel like I am going to have a Heart attack my heart is beating out of my chest.... Do you ever e xperience these things? Please let me know. I honestly HATE going to sleep now cause I can't sleep very well because I feel I want to avoid what's happening to me at night. WHAT IS IT CALLED AND HOW CAN I GET RID OF IT?????

I know this is an old post, but I joined just for this reason.  I wake up and usually jump out of bed, it's like something or someone is about to kill me, I tear the blankets off the bed and have actually unlocked the door and walked around the house.  I can't pinpoint exactly what it is and after a few minutes I convince myself everything is ok.  It reoccurs at least 5 times a week.  I don't sleep well and have trouble falling asleep to begin with.
You might have sleep apnea too. 90% of people with a parasomnia (like this one) also have sleep apnea.
