Sleep paralysis. I'd realllyyy love an answer.

I'm female, 15 years old, relativly healthy, so is the rest of my family.
Average weight, average height and so on.
(just in case that helps)

I recently found out that these ..symptoms I've been having in my sleep is an actual sleeping disorder called sleep paralysis. I did reserch it and I found that most people expirience negative "dreams" during that time that sleep paralysis occured. But I've recently been getting these episodes of sleep paralysis that were rather pleasurable. The feeling of being sufficated and put to my death turned into almost sexual feelings, I found this extreemly unsual.
The thing is I expirience sleep paralysis 5 out of 7 days a week on average..  I started expiriencing this, a couple years ago, but sleep paralysis really occured only once in a blue moon, within the past couple months I notisted I started getting it more often. I just want to know.. is this normal ? I personaly don't know anyone..or even heard of anyone who expiriences sleep paralysis this frequently.

My 2nd concern is ..getting sudden dizziness. Today on my way back from school, I started feeling extreemly light headed, it only lasted perhaps 10 minutes at most, but I still couldn't explain it. This happened on a couple ramdom occasions. Could there be a link to my sleeping?

I would see a neurologist to rule out partial seizures

Hello, Kristy.

I cannot comment on your sleep paralysis, even though I experience that phenomena also.  I've never had your feelings of pleasure - mine are always quite scary.  However, on your dizziness problem, I think it might be a blood sugar problem.  Usually at your age, that's the explanation.  At the end of the school day, you probably hadn't eaten in awhile and your blood sugar could have been low.  If this problem occurs more often, then I would recommend you talk to your family doctor.  One thing to think about is to bring a light snack to eat in the late afternoon, before your last class of the day.  This would help keep your blood sugar regulated.

Best of luck!

Curt

I am 34 and diagnosed with sleep apnea. Your mention of the feeling of suffocation and pleasure remind me of the sleep paralysis I had as a teenager. This rarely happenend at night usually during a daytime nap after falling asleep while reading or watching sports. I thought I grew out of it until I got married and my husband told me that sometimes I stopped breathing in my sleep. As I got older and gained weight it got worse. It might not be so bothersome now but it might be a good idea to have a sleep study. Sleep apnea has links to stroke and heart health and may be relate to weight gain as result of low energy.

Just my 2 cents.
