Stop breathing during sleep but my brain wakes up

Sometimes when I sleep I stop breathing to the point were I start making a "dolphin" noise (that's what my boyfriend calls it). He says it's like I'm suffocating. My brain wakes up because I hear the noise I'm making but I can't move. I hear everything going on around me like my boyfriend telling me to breath. But I can't move. I only can "wake up" when he physically moves me. I read about sleep paralysis but they don't mention making noise. Also people say they can open there eyes or move toes and fingers. I can't. I'm just stuck there until he shakes me.

Hi, sure sounds like sleep paralysis to me.  If so, then this is typically considered a harmless, benign condition and nothing to worry about.

The breathing however is more of a concern if you are not experiencing refreshing sleep.  In other words if you are feeling unusually tired, run down, lack of energy and so forth, then you should be checked by a medical professional.

If you are sleeping normally, then I suspect you can just let this go if you have no other symptoms.
